About us:
Windy Hill Farm is committed to bring only the best
tasting beef from our pastures to your freezer. We respect and honor the
creatures under our care. Our cattle spend their days grazing on pasture,
eating locally grown hay, and people watching (us). They are fed supplemental
locally grown Midwest grain (for nice marbling). They are not given any
steroids or growth hormones. We do not use chemical fertilizers, insecticides,
or weed killers on grazing land or hay fields. We use low stress handling
techniques and provide a low stress environment where the cattle can flourish.
Most conventionally raised beef cattle are sent to CAFOs (confined animal feeding operations) to fatten up before slaughter. These feedlots are often nasty places, infamous for their cramped conditions, contaminated groundwater, and clouds of fecal dust. The animals are often given hormones, antibiotics, and other drugs to enhance and treat diseases which arise from this crowded, stressful environment. Our cattle are pastured until day of slaughter. They are harvested within 3 hours of arrival at butchering facility. This ensures less stress resulting in more tender beef. – Janelle Crisan, Owner |
